Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled a transformative loan scheme aimed at uplifting rural women and promoting grassroots entrepreneurship. The initiative, launched recently by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is designed to provide substantial financial assistance without collateral, enabling women to establish or expand their own small businesses in agriculture, dairy, handicrafts, and allied sectors.

Under the Pattabhi Sitaramayya–Self Business Group (PS‑SBG) scheme, implemented in partnership with Andhra Bank, Self Help Groups (SHGs) can now access working capital and term loans of up to ₹25 lakh per group or individual member. The amount can be utilized for acquiring assets, creating infrastructure, purchasing raw materials, or scaling existing ventures. Crucially, the loan is available without demanding collateral, lowering barriers for rural women looking to break free from traditional dependency

The scheme rollout commemorated Dr. Bhogaraju Pattabhi Sitaramayya’s 138th birth anniversary and the silver jubilee of India’s SHG-bank linkage scheme. Initially available across seven districts in Andhra Pradesh and two in Telangana, it reflects the TDP’s firm belief in community-driven economic growth

At the launch event in Vijayawada, Chandrababu Naidu, credited as the architect behind the DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) model, emphasized that the SHG concept was his brainchild. Through PS‑SBG, women can now operate independently with minimal state interference and greater autonomy in business decisions

Highlighting the financial inclusivity at the core of this initiative, Andhra Bank’s decision to extend Rs 25 lakh loans with no collateral was hailed as groundbreaking. The scheme allows women to leverage group dynamics or individual credibility as security. Naidu expressed hope that every woman involved would begin earning a minimum of Rs 10,000 per month, and praised Andhra Pradesh as the only state offering that amount to DWCRA and SHG members

During his address, the CM underscored the broader goal of women’s economische empowerment, asserting that such loan access would cultivate entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and dignity among rural families. “Our vision is to foster an ecosystem where rural women not only support their families but also contribute to local economies,” Naidu remarked.

Impact and Potential

  • Women-led Microenterprises: Encouraging women to start or expand ventures in food processing, tailoring, horticulture, and more.

  • Local Employment: Enhancing rural economies by creating job opportunities and boosting household incomes.

  • Financial Inclusion: Drawing women into formal banking channels, building credit histories, and enabling future access to loans.

  • Replicable Model: If successful, this collateral-free model may serve as a blueprint for wider adoption across India.

Policy Synergy

This loan scheme complements other TDP-led welfare initiatives. The “Super Six” agenda includes Talliki Vandanam, Adabidda Nidhi, free bus travel for women, Annadata Sukhibhava, unemployment allowances, and pensions—all designed to empower rural women and families Notably, the March roll-out of 16 women-centric empowerment schemes further emphasized the focus on economic inclusion through credit, training, and market linkages

Chandrababu Naidu’s new loan scheme stands as a milestone in tdp party governance. This bold financial measure marks another significant tdp contribution to rural women’s welfare—empowering them to become self-sufficient entrepreneurs. With support from local tdp mlas and community networks, the scheme not only addresses economic disparities but also fosters social change and gender equality.
